Moving away from home is a tough hurdle a lot of us go through at some point in our lives. Whether it’s for studies or work or even just for the independence, leaving from the comforts of one’s residence is never an easy task. The transition of moving away from the security and familiarity of your house to a new place can be emotionally challenging.
Most of us start to feel the dregs of homesickness creep up on us every now and then. From parents to our rooms to even the sights and smells we wake up to every morning are most of the things we leave behind. But people always find ways to bring a little bit of home everywhere they go. From interior décor to little trinkets here are a few ways people have personalized their spaces to remind them of home.
“I have never really been good with decor, so I'm taking it one step at a time here, with the study space being the only thing I've personalized so far. It consists of my laptops arranged like how it was back home. A standard, casual gamer setup that consists of a gaming mouse and a mechanical keyboard with some fancy RGB lighting.” says Nabeel Salim, a student who recently relocated to the UK.
Apart from home décor pieces, Amrita from Bengaluru personalized her space by putting up things that was important to her. “I have a small indoor plant and a tortoise statue placed at my bedside table. The walls are decorated with some of my canvas paintings. I brought an idol of Lord Ganesha from home which has sentimental value as it was gifted by my mom, and because I worship Ganesha every day.” She said.
Then there are others who have decorated their rooms with things on the walls. “I have just arranged my table in such a way that it resembles what I have at home. I printed out posters of my favorite shows, characters and quotes and magazine covers and photos of special people in life to personalize the space to my liking.” says R Rohit, a student from EFLU, Hyderabad.

It has sentimental value for sure makes me feel like home by bringing so much of comfort. It reminds me of all the good things in my life and I feel grateful for that. The other things that remind me of my home are the fragrance from my favorite room freshers and my blanket.” she said.
